Legislation that passed through the New York State Legislature in June 2019 allows Orange County, NY to add video-lottery terminals operated by World Resort Catskills. The addition of terminals will allow the World Resort Catskills to bring many new jobs to Orange County and provide lasting economic development.
New York Legislature Passes Wage Theft Legislation
In June 2021, the New York State Senate and Assembly approved a bill that could make construction contractors responsible for wage theft committed by subcontractors. The legislation states that contractors can be held liable or potentially face civil violations if a subcontractor on a worksite stiff's workers, a major victory for construction workers.
New York Expands Prevailing Wage Law
Prevailing Wage Laws require payment of community standard-wages on public construction projects, and they are greatly beneficial to keep carpenters working and earn fair wages to support themselves. The New York City District Council of Carpenters was instrumental in the passage of Prevailing Wage Legislation as they organized, rallied, campaigned, and voted their views into power and legislative victory in New York State.
