November 1, 2010 - Queens Courierby Steve Mosco
A new era of New York horse racing began at Aqueduct Racino as hundreds gathered for the official groundbreaking on Thursday, October 28.
The project – Resorts World New York – gives the city its first-ever casino, right in South Ozone Park, and is expected to generate $300 million in annual revenue for the state. Genting New York, the developer behind the Queens racetrack, plans to install 1,600 Video Lottery Terminals by the end of March, with the casino becoming fully operational in 18 months.

Paterson leads groundbreaking ceremony for long-awaited Aqueduct casino
November 1, 2010 - YourNabe.comby Connor Adams Sheets
The “racino” project at Aqueduct Racetrack in Ozone Park ceremonially broke ground after nine years of false starts and planning Thursday morning, attracting a slew of local leaders and union construction workers.
Actual construction work will begin on the project in about 30 days, but Gov. David Paterson led a group of stakeholders in the project in a ceremonial demolition, during which participants each broke a slab of rock with rubber hammers.
“With today’s groundbreaking, New York continues its confident march out of recession and back to prosperity and job growth,” Paterson said.

The Day at the Races: October 29
October 29, 2010 - NY Daily Newsby Jerry Bossert
For once, there were smiles at Aqueduct.
In what was the most significant gathering at the decaying race track since the Pope held Mass there in 1995, Gov. Paterson and several politicians Thursday finally held the ground-breaking ceremony for the casino, nine years after it was approved by state legislation.
The casino, which will be called Resorts World New York, will be run by Genting New York LLC, a subsidiary of Genting Malaysia, and is expected to generate $300 million annually for the state, bring jobs to the area and revitalize horse racing.
